One of the mystery quilts I've been working on is called Easy Street by Bonnie Hunter.
Here are my finished blocks. I chose red, brown and black where Bonnie chose bright colors...aqua, purple and lime green. Those bright colors just aren't me. Plus, I would have had to go buy them all....here I just pulled from my stash.
If anything looks wonky, it's because the blocks are just spread out on the carpet.
One of the down sides of doing a mystery quilt is that you can't choose where the colors will fall. I would have prefered the red and brown be swapped. As it stands, my star points (on the blocks with the black centers) are brown. I think that if they were red they'd stand out more.
Over the next couple of days I'll work on sewing the rows together. It will be a slow and tedious job since the blocks are huge (15 1/2 inches) and have many seams and points to match.
All in all, for a mystery quilt lover, it was pretty satisfying.

Libby, the blocks look so complicated but beautiful too. You have done fabulous work.
ReplyDeleteLove this one and I agree with you on the bright colors! I really like what you've chosen. Good luck with the sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteLooking good, really different and yet so very, very nice!!
ReplyDeleteI think your quilt is really beautiful. But I feel the same way about my quilt that you do about yours -- I would have liked it better if I'd known which color was going to be most dominant.

I love seeing all of these color variations! Your's is GRRRRRRRRREEEEEAAAAAAAAT! Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color combination.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a very restful, comforting colour scheme.
ReplyDeleteThese colors are wonderful. I have just chosen black, red and tan to do a BOM this year. I hope it will look as great as this does. I don't do the brights, either, but I just toned down the colors Bonnie used. Now I wish I had done something more like this.
ReplyDeleteI can see what you are saying about the red star points would have been more visible, but this is still gorgeous!
Your colors are beautiful...I have loved seeing all the different ideas people chose for the mystery. Makes me wish I did mine in another colorway. :)
ReplyDeleteYour Easy Street is looking good. There's loads of sewing at the end but it's totally worth it. It was fun working on this with everyone.
